Staff at two special needs schools in Hackney will be taking strike action over pay tomorrow.
Around 50 teaching assistants at Horizon School in Wordsworth Road, Stoke Newington and Downsview School in Tiger Way, Downs Road, Clapton plan to go on strike after negotiations about pay with school management broke down. Staff allege that school management failed to pay agreed pay grades which will see staff losing up to £2,000 per year in salary.
Matthew Waterfall, Hackney Unison branch secretary, said: “We have spent over a year trying to negotiate a settlement to this dispute but management refuses to pay the right and proper pay rate to our members.
“We appreciate that the strike will cause disruption to children and parents, which we do not want. However, in the face of management intransigence, our members are left with no option but to assert their right to take lawful industrial action.”
Staff will picket on Prince George Road from 8am.
