A headteacher who has worked tirelessly in Hackney for almost 40 years helping students with special educational needs has been made an MBE by Queen Elizabeth II.
Pat Quigley, who received the honour at Buckingham Palace earlier this month, is headteacher of the Garden School, which transformed from a failing school seven years ago to one twice lauded as “outstanding” by Ofsted.
“I am very touched that my contribution and commitment to special education in Hackney has been recognised,” Pat said. “I have been overwhelmed by the number of parents and colleagues, past and present, who have been in touch to pass on their good wishes.”
Garden School executive headteacher Kt Khan added: “Pat epitomises the dedication, hard work and care towards SEN youngsters whom she has given her life to in Hackney.
“I cannot think of someone who deserves this award any more than herself. Thank you Pat for making The Garden the best specialist provision in Hackney for youngsters with challenging autism.”
