Members of Hackney Youth Parliament (HYP) have reported back to the council about their achievements last year and discussed goals for 2014 – which include a campaign about work experience and careers advice.
Achievements in the past year include contributing to a council review to combat youth homelessness, a survey of young people involving discipline at home and school with the child and adolescent mental health service, and organising a conference about identity.
HYP member Ife Grillo, 16, said: “It was great discussing with the councillors the problems that face young people in Hackney.”
Cllr Rita Krishna, cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: “They do an excellent job in representing the views and opinions of young people in Hackney, and we are looking forward to working even more closely with them in 2014.”
