Haggerston School’s end of term performance of the Shakespeare classic Macbeth was the first production ever staged in the school’s newly adapted performance studio.
A gym at the school in Weymouth Terrace has been transformed into a space for teaching theatre studies with stage lighting and retractable seating for 200, so it can still be used for sport.
The £100,000 cost was footed by the school.
Chair of governors, Barry O’Brien officially opened the studio on the first night of three nights of performances as he praised the cast of 34 students.
The school also welcomed MP for Hackney South, Meg Hillier, this week, when she came to see the refurbishments and meet with students and staff.
