ACTOR Jude Law went back to school on Tuesday (September 21) when he visited pupils in Dalston to launch a new film competition in line with London’s Olympic Games.

Showbiz star Law and documentary maker Jeremy Gilley, founder of the Peace One Day campaign, encouraged young people at The Petchey Academy in Shacklewell Lane to make short films inspired by the theme of ‘Truce’.

The Film Nation:Shorts competition, organised by the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and Peace One Day, gives young filmmakers the chance to get their work showcased at the capital’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.

And Petchey pupils were the first contestants to submit a film, which got a special introduction from Law and Gilley at the launch this week.

“Today, on Peace Day, we’re delighted to be working with the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad to issue a call to action for young people to change the world through creativity and the power of film,” said Law.

Petchey principal Olivia Cole said: “The experience of making the film and meeting such talented filmmakers is a really memorable and exciting reward for our students who are living the Olympic and Paralympic values in school every day.”

Film Nation:Shorts is open to 14 to 25-year-olds and entries can be submitted until October 1. The competition will run each year until 2012.
