Disabled youngsters were over the moon to find their playground had erupted into a colourful explosion of pom-poms and knitted cows.

KIDS Adventure Play near Springfield Park, Lower Clapton, had been transformed thanks to the efforts of keen ‘yarnbombing’ knitters in a bid to raise awareness for the playground as it faces a challenging financial future.

The play area provides a place for local disabled children and those with special educational needs to play and is a lifeline to parents and children alike.

Claira Scott-Gray, playground manager, said: “This vibrant and visually interesting activity will also send a thought-provoking message – our children’s increasing sedentary lives means kids play experiences risk becoming wrapped in cotton, or indeed knitted wool.

“We want to give our kids the space and time to play, the chance to explore and take risks.”
