A drumming and dancing group from Kingsmead School emerged triumphant after a gruelling selection process, which earned them the honour of performing on the last and most prestigious night of the School’s Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

Nearly the entire staff from the primary school in Kingsmead Way and many parents went to see the performance by the Kingsmead Dynamix in the iconic venue.

Headteacher Louise Nichols said they were all very proud.

“Their amazing teachers Dorinia Harley and Steve Bewes, are drumming and dance specialists, who have been teaching the children every week since they were in reception class and they are now in Years 4, 5 and 6,” she said.

“Being on the stage was scary but when all the people there clapped it made you feel kind of proud of yourself,” said 10-year old Sahila Richards, one of the by the 25-strong group.

“The people were very kind to us and we got lots of cheers from the audience,” added nine-year old Rishanti Owusu.

Organised jointly by the Royal Albert Hall and charity Music For Youth, just 41 groups from across the UK took to the stage to represent the excellence and innovation taking place in young people’s music-making across the whole of the UK.
