Youth and education charity City Year will extend its mentoring work into another school in Hackney this September.
The charity already works at seven schools in London including Sebright, Shacklewell and Whitmore primary schools in Hackney, and when the new school term starts it will extend its links to five new schools including Haggerston secondary school in Weymouth Terrace.
City Year recruits 18-25 year olds to become tutors, mentors and role models.
Janice Thomas, executive head of Sebright School in Audrey Street, Haggerston, which has been involved in the programme for two years, said: “The team makes a massive difference to children’s confidence and enjoyment of school and they do an excellent job supporting teachers to raise standards in English and maths.
“Heads should be forming an orderly queue to bring City Year into their schools.”
