Our Lady’s Convent celebrates Black History Month with Carroll Thompson

1980s singer Carroll Thompson - dubbed the ‘Queen of Lover’s Rock’ - guided Our Lady’s Convent High School pupils through a musical tribute highlighting the music of some of the most influential black female singers of our time.
The event last Thursday celebrated the female voice, stretching from the blues of Bessie Smith to the bootylicious Beyonce.
It is part of the Black History Month celebrations at the school based in Mount Pleasant Lane and Amhurst Park.
Yesterday (Wednesday) pioneering Jamaican nurse Mary Seacole was brought vividly to life with a re-enactment of her life by actress Cleo Sylvestre.
