Hackney Council is searching for women living or working in the borough who have an unusual job, an inspiring career, or who successfully work in a typically ‘male-dominated’ world to share their stories.

They are hoping that they will inspire and empower the next generation of young women in Hackney to broaden their horizons and aspirations, smash glass ceilings, and think outside the career box.

The council’s inaugural Inspiring Young Hackney Women event will be held on Tuesday March 8 to coincide with International Women’s Day, and will see the women share their stories in a bid to motivate and galvanise young women from a range of Hackney schools, who will then take those narratives back to their peers.

Cllr Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor of Hackney, said: “Sadly, for a number of socially-ingrained reasons, young women continue to lag behind their male peers when it comes to career aspirations.

“It is so important that from a young age, women are empowered with the knowledge, confidence and tools to aim high.

“Inspiring Young Hackney Women will bring together local women from a range of professions and backgrounds to talk to the younger generation about the vast, exciting possibilities that await them in the working world.
