Youngsters from a Stoke Newington primary school were over the moon to see their end of year play staged on a professional theatre after winning a London-wide competition.
The year six leavers from Springfield Primary School in Castlewood Road, were just one of six schools in London with the opportunity to perform at the Unicorn Theatre near London Bridge, as part of the Class Acts festival.
Teacher Amanda Murphy said: “Loads of schools applied to do it, our children wrote persuasive letters and got through to have a professional director, lighting, stage and design.
“Some of the children who don’t do so well in lessons just shone in the play,” she added.
The play was about world pollution and the future, and the 11-year olds all made their own alien costumes out of bin liners and recycled plastic bags.
