Full results from Hackney schools and colleges with photos from the day

THE FULL list of A level pass rates for schools and colleges in Hackney have been announced following results day last week.

Nerves ran high on Thursday as Hackney students collected their A-level results in the most competitive year for university admissions in a decade.

But there were smiles all round as hundreds made the grade.

Students and teachers at Hackney Community College in Falkirk Street, Shoreditch, celebrated an eight percent rise in pass rates, with 97 per cent of marks at E and over, and 61 per cent between A* and C.

Eighty-five students sat A levels, and college principal Ian Ashman congratulated them on their hard work.

“We are delighted. It is a reflection of the improvements that staff and students have made across the college.”

As A level results improved nationally for the 28th year with the pass rate rising to 97.6 per cent, Hackney colleges and schools also reported more successes.

The star story from BSix Sixth Form College in Keninghall Road, Lower Clapton, emerged as Allum Bokhari became its first student to gain a place at Oxford University. The 19-year-old will be reading History and Politics at Queens College after achieving straight A*s in Philosophy, Government & Politics and History.

A total of 69 BSix students sat A level exams, achieving an overall pass rate of 94 percent, with 49 per cent achieving A* to C grades.

High fliers at Stoke Newington School and Sixth Form in Clissold Road saw A level pass rates reach 94 percent with 63 percent of the grades between A* and C.

Head teacher Annie Gamon said: “We are delighted with the results of many of our students - their talent, potential and hard work is duly recognised by some excellent grades.”

Admissions body UCAS said this has been the most competitive year for admissions for a decade. It was estimated that up to 200,000 students could miss out on places as universities face cost cutting and caps.

But at Cardinal Pole Catholic School in Kenworthy Road, Homerton - where the pass rate was 96 per cent with 65 per cent of grades between A* and C - head of sixth form Graham Shurety said most students had found a university place despite the scrimmage.

The 57 A level students at Our Lady’s Convent High School in Amhurst Park, Stamford Hill, passed 99 per cent of their exams, with 83 per cent of the grades A* to C.

Special congratulations went out to Alexis Adimora, 17, Joanna Davies, 18, and Niamh McLaughlin, 18, who all gained A*s and As.

Students at Clapton Girls Technology College in Laura Place, Lower Clapton, achieved a whopping 100 per cent pass rate, with 63 per cent of the scores between A* and C. And Skinners Company School for Girls in Stamford Hill also saw all of their students passing, with 60 per cent of marks between A* and C.
