An elderly man has died after being hit by a car in Upper Clapton Road this morning.

Police were called just before 10.45am to the junction of Cleveleys Road and the pedestrian, believed to be in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roads are closed in the are area while the emergency services investigate. The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting officers from the Met’s Road and Transport Command with their enquiries.

Police said the man’s next of kin were in the process of being told about his death.
