A peace march calling for a halt to the senseless slaughter of youths on our streets takes place on Sunday, after two shocking deaths in the space of three weeks.
The march from Haggerston Overground Station to Hackney Town Hall has been organised by community groups who stand together in solidarity saying “enough is enough”.
The Crib youth club along with the Robert Levy Foundation, which was set up in memory of the Cardinal Pole pupil who was stabbed in Hackney 11 years ago, are being supported by the council and the police in organising the march.
Kelly Reid, from The Crib, said: “After the stabbing of Marcel Addai in Hoxton and three weeks later the shooting of Moses Fadairo in broad daylight, where men, women and children of all ages witnessed the horrific crime that took a young man’s life, we felt enough is enough.
“Those people who witnessed the incident will all be mentally affected by what they saw and the fear they felt.
“This is something that could affect all of us at some point in our lives.
“Too often young children are aware of the increase in violent crime, creating a generation of desensitized children and young people.
“We are trying to make a change. It took years to get it here and it may take years to change but we have to start somewhere – as a community we can create change.”
The march leaves Haggerston Station in Lee Street at 2pm and should reach Hackney Town Hall in Mare Street at around 3.30pm, where Deputy Mayor Sophie Linden will be amongst those speaking.
Mourners gathered in memory of Moses Fadairo last Sunday, singing gospel songs and saying prayers for his family.
