Get your electrical items repaired for free today in London Fields

PUBLISHED: 08:37 28 June 2014 | UPDATED: 08:50 28 June 2014

Broken electrical items will be fixed for free, and some people's junk will become another's treasure, at an environmental awareness raising day - today in London Fields.

The idea is to encourage people to repair and reuse where possible, as well as reduce consumption, to cut down on the mountain of waste our society generates.

Volunteer repairers will teach people how to fix things themselves and give a once over to poorly printers, laggard laptops, morbid mobiles and other dead devices.

Meanwhile a “Give or Take” stand will allow people to give away any toys, clothes, books, tools, kitchenware or furniture which are lurking in the back of their cupboards, that others can pick up for free.

Visitors will be able to grab a free meal thanks to the North London Waste Authority, which is making 1,000 meals at a cost of £680 - the value of edible food the average family throws away every year.

The event organised by Hackney Council’s Sustainable Hackney team and Friends of the Earth takes place from 11am to 3pm on Saturday June 28 at the Martello Street entrance of London Fields.
