The organisation responsible for 100 miles of waterway in London is calling on Hackney residents to care for their canal.

British Waterways, which is taking on charity status this year and will be renamed the Canal & River Trust (CRT), wants people to get involved as volunteers.

Monthly activities varying from painting to vegetation clearance and planting, take place on the third Saturday of each month, with additional sessions take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The next Towpath Tidy session takes place this Saturday (January 21) to prep and paint the volunteering boat Hanwell.

Sessions take place from 10am to 12.30pm or 1.30pm until 4pm, and people should meet at Hackney Wick overground station.
