FA Women’s Super League 2: Millwall Lionesses 4 Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 1

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies’ attempts to tame the Millwall Lionesses fell short in a 4-1 reverse at St Paul’s Sports Ground, despite an array of momentum throughout the FA Women’s Super League 2 London derby.

Amber Gaylor met Billie Brooks’ deep free-kick with a header to give the hosts the early advantage with just four minutes on the clock.

Despite conceding early, Spurs gathered momentum three minutes on. Wendy Martin’s inside left strike was tipped into the side-netting.

Two minutes later, Coral-Jade Haines’ volley went over the upright before Sarah Wiltshire’s strike off the right dipped into the arms of Sarah Quantrill on 12 minutes.

Toni-Anne Wayne smothered Ella Rutherford’s through-ball to Gaylor eight minutes later.

Haines sliced her volley over on 24 minutes and her visionary pass found Wiltshire inside the area, who was frustrated by Leighanne Robe’s vital tackle after 28 minutes.

Wiltshire found the overlapping Lucia Leon whose cross evaded Martin’s near-post run by inches with 32 minutes played.

Five minutes later, Ashlee Hincks’ in-swinging free-kick saw Gaylor unable to turn her connection on target.

Wiltshire’s inside left free-kick bounced loosely for Renee Hector to head towards the bottom right from close, but Quantrill palmed away in the 43rd minute.

Reaching 45 minutes, Wiltshire’s dipping free-kick was palmed over. And the resulting corner had attempts from Ashleigh Neville and Katie O’Leary fail to materialise.

Nine minutes into the restart, Hannah Mackenzie set O’Leary away down the channel and with Wiltshire bursting into the area, Georgie Giddings made a timely tackle.

Spurs’ pressure paid dividends in the 54th minute. Haines’ perfectly-weighted pass dropped to Wiltshire drifting into the area who found the far corner to equalise.

Wiltshire came within inches of a second eight minutes later, but fizzed a low strike inches past the left post.

Hincks’ free-kick crashed off the crossbar and Brooks’ rebound was ruled offside on 69 minutes.

Neville headed Jenna Schillaci’s right-sided free-kick over at the back-post two minutes later before Millwall went ahead on 72 minutes. Charlie Devlin, with time on the edge of the area, struck with clout into the top corner.

Sophie Mclean hit a thunderous strike just past the near-post from outside the area on 79 minutes for Spurs and four minutes later, Hincks’ cross from the right caused drama and Devlin found her second.

And Hincks slipped through Megan Wynne who placed across into the far corner deep in stoppage-time.
