FA Women’s Super League 2: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 2 Oxford United Women 1

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies’ persistence paid off at Cheshunt Football Ground, after turning around a deficit to win 2-1 against Oxford United Women during their FA Women’s Super League 2 encounter, putting to bed a winless seven-game run.

Bianca Baptiste recycled with Wendy Martin, before her cross flew inches ahead of Sarah Wiltshire at the near-post inside three minutes.

In the sixth minute, Coral-Jade Haines won possession for Baptiste to find Wiltshire, whose shot inside was blocked by Lauren Haynes. Haines fed Martin, whose long-range strike dipped towards Demi Lambourne, two minutes on.

Wiltshire set Haines for a 20-yard chip, which went inches over the upright after ten minutes. Five minutes later, Lucia Leon and Wiltshire combined for Josie Green’s dipper from afar to be denied by Lambourne.

Danielle Carlton’s one-two with Taome Oliver inside the box culminated with her striking wide for a rare attack from The U’s on 21 minutes. In the 25th minute, against the run of play, Ellis Hillman broke down the left and drilled in a cross for Chloe Chivers to head past Chloe Morgan from close.

Martin prodded past the near-post after holding off Hannah Short on the inside left, three minutes on. Baptiste and Leon’s pressure gave Martin a one-on-one inside the box, only for Lambourne to keep her out just past the half hour mark.

Morgan caught Carlton’s dipper on 33 minutes and seven minutes later, Baptiste’s glorious free-kick came within inches of a connection from Martin. Maya Vio’s far attempt was caught by Lambourne a minute later. Just before the break, Leon’s pass off the right saw Vio place over.

Eight minutes into the restart, Haines’ splitting pass arrived to Baptiste inside the box, but Haynes remained stern. Martin poked Leon through on goal, but Ella Franklin-Fraiture cleared after 57 minutes.

Ashleigh Neville tracked back to stop Chivers from having a one-on-one in the 64th minute. On 68 minutes, Baptiste found Wiltshire in the box whose strike was blocked by Short’s arms. Renee Hector’s spot-kick was saved down low, but Haines guided home the rebound.

Baptiste’s strike off the right was stopped with 15 minutes to go. In the 78th minute, fortunes were changed. Wiltshire’s splitting pass sent Baptiste away on the inside right, whose cross found Ryah Vyse at the back-post to prod home for the lead.

And six minutes from the end, Baptiste fired across goal which Lambourne pushed away.
