A lorry driver was today being held on suspicion of drug driving after a collision that killed a woman in City Road yesterday.

The victim, whose name and age have not yet been released by police, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 12.20pm. She was on foot at the junction with Westland Place, near Moorfields Eye Hospital, when the crash happened.

A 44-year-old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drugs and drug driving. He is now being detained at a north London police station.

Scotland Yard said the victim’s next of kin have been informed.
