A leading race equality expert from Hackney is excitedly looking forward to going to Buckingham Place in the Spring where she will receive the gong she was awarded in the Queen's New Year's honours at a special investiture..
Psychologist Dr Marie Stewart received an MBE for services to education, diversity and equal opportunities.
One of her notable achievements in a distinguished career is that she helped draw up the guidelines used by the Independent Police Complaints Authority to investigate complaints of race discrimination against the police
She was also an adviser to the family's legal team for the inquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence, producing the analysis "Race as a Factor in the Stephen Lawrence case" which was submitted to the inquiry.
She has also been an equality adviser to the Army on training and recruitment, assisted the Home Office on race and community policing and been a member of the Lord Chancellor's advisory committee on Justices of the Peace for Inner London.
Born in Jamaica she now lives in Upper Clapton.
