A programme to help integrate 200 refugees into life in Britain is launching this month.

Groundwork London’s two-year scheme Circle will run language and employment skill classes and culture sharing activities like cooking, gardening and carpentry from a base in Lower Clapton Road.

It has received over £300,000 of funding from AMIF (The Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund) set up by the European Commission.

A spokesperson said: “During consultations with refugees and refugee organisations it was clear there is a need for more integration support.

“Seeking refuge is a last resort for people who have had to leave their homes due to fear of persecution.

“For the small minority of the global refugee population granted asylum in London, it is essential provisions are made to tackle isolation and to foster an environment where people can share their skills and continue to move forward.”
