Residents are invited to a special exhibition offering a glimpse into Hackney life during the First World War.

Hackney Archives staff have dusted off a treasure-trove of material for their story box display to mark the First World War centenary and Remembrance Day on November 11.

Highlights include a letter from soldier fighting on the Western Front, rolls of honour for Hoxton and Stoke Newington and a poster calling on people to “fight the submarine in your homes”.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet member for health, social care and culture, said: “Hackney has a fascinating history just waiting to be explored, and Hackney Archives is the place to go and find out more. Come and see what can be discovered, and take a peek.”

The story box is available to view from 9:30am to 5:30pm until 15 November at the Hackney Archives, in Dalston CLR James Library, Dalston Square. A free introductory talk by staff is arranged for Tuesday 11 November at 3pm.

The exhibition coincides with Explore Your Archive week. To find out more visit exploreyourarchive.org.
