Bar flies searching for the best beer in London need look no further – Hackney Brewery’s American Pale Ale is officially king.

The Dalston brewery, founded in 2011 by Peter Hills and Jon Swain, won the best bitter category at the last ever London Drinker awards, organised by the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), before scooping the The Champion Beer of London too.

Sales manager Dan Sharp said the team was “over the moon” with the result.

He said: “We’ve been coming to the festival for seven years and it’s really special for us to win this award, especially at the last ever London Drinker – we’ll even get to keep the trophy!”

North Londoners Hammerton Brewery took second place with their Pentonville Oyster Stout, while Hackney’s Five Points’ Pale Ale won the best golden ale for its Five Points’ Pale Ale.

Winners were chosen by Camra members, journalists, brewers and licensees.
