The biggest ever Hackney Carnival will hit the streets on Sunday, with dancers travelling from as far afield as Bolivia.

The highlight is a colourful parade with over 1,000 performers in 28 carnival groups, starting in Queensbridge Road, Haggerston, at 1.30pm.

Decked out in feathers and sequins, booming beats and deft dance routines will take the streets by storm. The parade will take four hours to travel to the judging point outside the Town Hall in Mare Street and back again.

An all-day carnival extravaganza runs from noon to 8pm in various spots around the borough. A live music stage in Gillett Square, Dalston, will be headlined by legendary Jamaican reggae star Earl 16, and Ridley Road, Dalston, will host food stalls and five more sound systems.

Meanwhile new kid on the block Faggamuffin Bloc Party, in Bohemia Place, Hackney Central, looks set to make history as the carnival’s first ever sound system run and curated by queer people of colour.
