Hackney’s children are helping to catch out parents who park unsafely around school grounds in a council bid to create safer and greener roads.

Junior Road Saftey Officers (JRSO) have been chosen from 24 schools by the council to champion road safety to their peers following training in Hackney Museum.

The new parking patrols have rolled out across 52 of the 53 Hackney-maintained schools in the borough, including Scholastica’s in St Scholastica’s Primary School, Kenninghall Rd.

JRSOs will also promote safety messages and encourage alternative methods of getting to school such as cycling, walking or taking the bus.

Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Junior Road Safety Officers play a vital role in tackling road safety issues in and around the grounds of their schools. “We hope motorists will take heed of the safety messages being asked of them and help make the roads cleaner, greener and safer for all.”
