Tenants having to put up with years of disruption due to the regeneration of Hackney's council estates should have first dibs on the new builds, a new report states.

Cabinet members will decide on Monday whether to back the new proposals, which could be trialled on the Kings Crescent Estate in Finsbury Park before being rolled out across the borough.

The report states: “Such a policy would provide opportunities for existing tenants in housing need to benefit from the new homes being delivered on their estates and to continue living in their existing communities.

“Having such an offer for existing residents in housing need is essential in building the trust, rationale and support for building new homes on our existing estates.”
