Cllr Feryal Demirci and Cllr Louisa Thomson are cycling an impressive 230 miles from London to Brussels to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

They hope make £4000 for the charity through the three-day challenge this September, which will go towards supporting the 840,000 people in the UK who have a form of dementia.

Cllr Demirci said: “The Alzheimer’s Society is a charity we both feel passionately about supporting – a close family member has just been diagnosed with the condition and I want to do something positive to help support people to live well with dementia and fund vital research to find a cure.”

Cllr Louisa Thomson added: “We’re both keen cyclists but we’ve never cycled so far over consecutive days before.

“Weekends are now increasingly being taken up with training in amongst our council work and we want to make every pedal count and hopefully reach our fundraising target.”
