The proportion of pupils in Hackney achieving five A* to C grades including English and Maths in their GCSE exams is higher than the national average.
Figures released by the Department for Education last week show that in 2012, some 60.2 per cent of those entered to sit the exams hit the target, compared to 59.4 per cent nationally. This is also an improvement of 3.2 per cent compared to 2011 when only 57 per cent of pupils achieved this target.
The statistics follow provisional figures published when pupils opened up their results in August, and also include rankings of the best and worst performing schools.
Of the schools with 100 or more pupils eligible to sit the exams, Mossbourne Community Academy in Downs Park Road, Clapton achieved the best results – with 89 per cent out of 181 pupils achieving five A* to C grades including English and Maths.
Other high performers include Tayyibah Girls’ School in Filey Avenue, Stoke Newington where 100 per cent of 20 pupils obtained five A* to C grades including English and Maths.
