Hackney saw another dramatic week as police faced an armed siege, a Yardie boss was deported to face a murder trial, and six schoolboys saved a pensioner trapped by flames in his blazing flat.

People had seen a gun-toting man on Well Street Common before he ran into a house in Meynell Road occupied by four squatters, South Hackney. Marksmen from the Met’s crack “Blue Beret” unit ringed the house and the gunman gave himself up after two hours.

Meanwhile Yardie “godfather” and reggae star Errol Codling was deported to Jamaica to stand trial for killing a cop. The man dubbed “the most dangerous foreign national in Britain” by police had been found with drugs in an illegal drinking den.

And twins John and Terry Clowery, Jamie Reid, William Cassidy, Steven Munro and Darren Geraghty were hailed as heroes for dragging a 72-year-old man to safety from his blazing home in Blake House on Stoke Newington Milton Gardens estate, after hearing him screaming for help.
