A kind-hearted man is getting into the festive spirit by hosting a Christmas Day lunch for older people who would otherwise be on their own.
Chris Murdoch has arranged for the over 60s event to take place at St Mary’s Church in Church Street, Stoke Newington.
“I volunteered last year and just really enjoyed it,” he said. “It’s what Christmas is about. I want to bring people together that would otherwise by on their own. It’s a horrible thought that people are forgotten about. It’ll be a traditional Christmas dinner with a little bit of drinking, a quiz and bingo.”
Sainsbury’s in Stamford Hill is donating food, a local set designer is providing trees, decorations and crackers and other local firms are donating mince pieces, Christmas cake and cards. Transport to and from the event will also be provided.
Anyone interested in attending can call Chris by December 19 on 07495555204 or email chrisraymurdoch@icloud.com.
