Hackney marks 500 days until Paralympics

Hackney’s champion swimmers marked 500 days to go until London’s Paralympic Games.

Gold medallist Dervis Konuralp, Hackney’s 2012 ambassador, and Paralympic hopeful Lauren Smith made a splash with the swimming squad from Gayhurst Community School, winners of last year’s Hackney primary schools swimming gala, at London Fields Lido.

Today (Sunday) sees 500 days to go until the start of the Paralympics, which start on August 29 2012.

Tickets go on sale on September 9 this year.

Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney, said: “Hackney is looking forward to the arrival of the Paralympic Games in just 500 days time. London Fields Lido is a genuine asset for London, and is widely used by both casual and elite swimmers. Swimming is something which can bring all kinds of people together and the pool provides a great opportunity for all young people to develop their fitness and enjoy being active.”
