A members’ café which aims to revolutionise freelance working opened in Hackney’s fashion district yesterday.

For a monthly membership cost which equates to £5 a day, members of the Workers’ Cafe in Morning Lane can stay all day, drink as much coffee as they like and use the wifi and power supply provided.

Videographer Ryan Seville came up with the idea when he became fed up of the “awkwardness” of trying to “eek out” a whole working day from a coffee shop - and the final straw came when the only coffee shop he could find to work from closed down.

He said: “It gets rid of that concern of “how long should I stay in this café after that one coffee I bought” – it’s a new concept.

“We’re trying to create a little community where people can bounce ideas off each other but also get things done free from the usual café distractions like crying babies and people who just want to chat to you.”
