Hackney Museum was transformed into a Tube station to teach children about safety on public transport.
Over the course of five weeks, 46 primary schools took part in the Hackney Junior Citizenship Scheme at the museum, in Reading Lane, a series of safety workshops for Year 6 children about personal safety and the importance of being responsible for their own actions.
Hosted by the safety and citizenship team from London Transport Museum, the annual event is pitched at Year 6s specifically, as they are becoming increasingly independent, helping them with their transition to secondary school.
Other activities included first aid training from the British Red Cross, a lesson from the London Fire Brigade on how fire spreads and a session on dog behaviour from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
Year 6 pupil Faith Babatunde, from St Dominic’s Catholic School, Ballance Road, Homerton, said: “It taught me many helpful things, like how to put an unconscious person into the recovery position. Also, I learnt to be aware on transport. It was a great experience and in the future it will help me.”
