Hackney pensioners enjoy trip to West End with tea party charity

A group of pensioners were taken back in time on a trip to the West End to see classic musical An American in Paris.
The seven elderly people all attend the tea parties hosted by Contact the Elderly, a charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among those aged 75 and above who live alone.
And last month staff decided to contact the Dominion Theatre, who not only welcomed them but made the trip to the matinee even more special by offering free programmes and helping the group to their seats – just in time for curtain up.
“I haven’t been to the theatre in over twenty years,” said Joyce Dean, 84. “My son, when he was alive, took me and my husband to see Miss Saigon as a Christmas treat.”
George North, 86, added: “Last time I was here Tommy Steele was doing his show. I cannot remember how long ago that must have been.”
Contact the Elderly are now looking to work with other organisations to offer complimentary visits for members of the charity.
If you would like to offer your venue, contact the charity on 0800 716 543.
