Portraits will make up world’s longest photograph

A Hackney-based artist is asking Londoners to jump their way into the history books as she attempts to create the world’s longest photograph in time for the 2012 Olympics.

Clare Newton, of Middleton Road, Dalston, has so far snapped about 600 of the ten thousand people she needs to make up her record breaking 2km-long portrait.

She said: “It is partly a madcap idea, but I get very frustrated with elitism in art and this is a way to reach out and involve the public at a much deeper level.”

Anyone who would like to support the project, appear in the photograph or perform at the next day-long ‘jump-a-thon’ at Superfit in Mentmore Terrace on February 5 should email jump4london@gmail.com.
