Young people with a disability are trying to raise disability awareness with an exhibition at Hackney Picturehouse.

The nine disabled teenagers who took photographs for Access All Areas were thrilled when the exhibition launched on Friday.

Representatives from disability charities, Transport for London (TfL), disability officers from the Department of Work and Pensions and guests from Hackney Council attended.

Catherine Lomas, paediatric physiotherapist at Hackney Ark health centre in Downs Park Road, said: “We were trying to show both the barriers and the facilitators for young people with a disability to going out and about in the community, there are some positives in there too.”

Some of the young people have been asked to be part of a TfL group to find ways to improve transport for people with disabilities.

The exhibition will on show in the Gallery Space on the second floor of the cinema in Mare Street until October 21.
