Amateur dramatics group, the Hackney Players, is raising money for the Hackney Winter Night Shelter with its annual panto Jack and the Beanstalk.

The group had its first dress rehearsal on Tuesday night ahead of seven shows at the Morland Community Hall in Gayhurst Road over the next two weekends.

“All the pantos are written by members of Hackney Players so it’s all original stuff,” said chair Michael Davies who is playing Jack’s brother. “The panto is obviously our most important production of the year, and we really believe in the importance of supporting local charities. Up until two years ago we put on four productions over one weekend but people were disappointed that there weren’t more shows. We decided to do January pantos because there’s so much going on in December, plus we need the rehearsal time!”

Next year is the group’s 50th anniversary, and something “extra special” is in store.

Tickets cost £8 for adults and £6 for concessions. For more information see hackneyplayers.org.uk/panto.
