Primary schools across the borough held their own Remembrance events to remember those who had fought and fallen in war.
As well as learning about the First World War centenary over the academic year, on Tuesday (November 11), children of all ages took part in wreath laying, scattering poppy seeds, making poppy sculptures and writing poems about the war.
Participating schools included St John of Jerusalem School, in Kingshold Road, London Fields, and Sir Thomas Abney, in Fairholt Road, Stoke Newington.
St Monica’s School in Hoxton Square marked the event with a balloon release to symbolise world peace.
Among secondary schools marking the event was Urswick School, in Paragon Road, with a service at John at Hackney Church on Tuesday led by school chaplain, Heather Atkinson, and Father Rob Wickham, rector of Hackney. Pupil Luke Sokhal played ‘The Last Post’ on the trumpet to accompany the ceremony.
