Players raise cash for AIDS charity.
HACKNEY Rugby Club has taken a break from pounding the opposition to take time growing moustaches in the name of charity.
The team, who play out of Spring Hill in Upper Clapton, have so far managed to raise �1,400 through growing a hairy upper lip with the cash going to children in Africa.
James Dawson, Hackney Rugby Club, said: “We decided to humiliate ourselves and scare off our opposition by each growing a selection of ‘taches to raise funds for our charity of the year Skrum.
“It is a Swaziland based charity dedicated to reaching children at greatest risk of HIV in Swaziland, the country with the highest HIV rates in the world.”
Skrum uses rugby to give youngsters social and sexual education as well as hope and physical exercise.
Hackney Rugby Club grew their moustaches during ‘Movember’ which runs in November allowing men to raise cash for charity.
The team is now planning to have a ceremonial shaving of the ‘lip slugs’.
