A new project will document the iconic print industry in east London and people who worked in it.

Rendezvous Projects a Walthamstow community interest company, has been awarded £58,200 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for Lightboxes and Lettering: Printing Industry Heritage in East London. It will explore how the industry has changed with the arrival of digital technologies and volunteers will interview workers and former workers.

Lithography, silkscreen and letter press has been a cornerstone of industry in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest for years.

Rendezvous director Lucy Harrison said: “We so pleased to have been awarded this grant which will uncover and preserve this important aspect of London’s industrial heritage, and one which is still a major part of the creative industries in east London.”

An exhibition will be held when the project finishes next year. Its progress can also be tracked online at rendezvousprojects.org.uk.
