HACKNEY boy turned Hollywood actor Idris Elba has given his favourite football team a lift by backing them to win something this year.

The actor, famed for his role as Stringer Bell in the highly acclaimed The Wire, lifted the Premier League trophy on Sunday and said he believed the Gunners could now go on to great things.

“I love Arsenal, I support them...think they’re a great team,” he said.

“They are one of the only London clubs, I feel, that really nuture their young and you end up seeing them play in the first team.

“Do I think Arsenal will win any silverware by the end of the season? Hmmmnnn let me think about that....Yes!”

Idris grew up in Holly Street, Dalston, and attended Laburnum Primary School in Haggerston, before it closed, and Kingsland Secondary School in Shacklewell Lane, which later became The Petchey Academy.
