Hackney’s figurehead Mayor is making a final bid to raise money for the charities he supports before his term comes to an end next week, with an art sale.

Speaker Michael Desmond hopes to raise funds for The Prince’s Trust and St Mungo’s Broadway through an exhibition, Speaker’s Corner: New Voices in Hackney Art, which launches tonight.

A score of artists including fresh Hackney faces along with co-founder of the Stuckism art movement, Billy Childish are displaying their works, and 15 per cent of sales will go towards the chosen charities.

Live music performances at the launch event at BL-NK in East Road, Hoxton, include Gypsy-influenced Klezmer duo, Balabustah and Britain’s Got Talent runner up Loveable Rogues between 6pm to 9.30pm.

Visitors to the free event will receive a free drink on arrival.
