Hackney street artist Stik joined forces with the Berlin Wall artist Thierry Noir, as he makes his debut on the Shoreditch street art scene.
A forerunner of themodern street art movement, Thierry Noir is famous for being the first artist to illegally continuously decorate the Berlin Wall from until its ultimate fall in 1989.
Along with street artist Stik, whose stick man figures are a familiar sight around Hackney, the pair painted a mural on the Village Underground Wall in Holywell Lane.
Stik said: “Thierry spent many years painting the Berlin wall, running from border guards with machine guns. “He played an important role in the fall of the wall and his work has since become an international symbol of peace. “We are really lucky to have such an iconic figure painting in our neighbourhood.”
The collaboration was organised by Street Art London, an independent arts organisation which facilitates links between artists, institutions and the public through organising festivals, exhibitions and arranging walls and commissions for artists.
