More than one hundred people attended the annual award-giving event of a an out-of-hours school on Saturday.

Pupils, their parents, speakers and sponsors of not-for-profit Vital EET Supplementary School, turned out for the Celebrating Our Legacy of Achievements awards at Homerton library in Homerton High Street, Homerton.

Staff at the school have coached at least 80 pupils in SAT, GCSE and A-Level subjects as well as supporting Year Six pupils in Key Stage Three subjects.

Executive director Seymour Mathis said: “The theme was celebrating the legacy of achievements and was based on the pupils’ outstanding progress. We want to encourage them to continue to do well in their education and excel and be inspired by political leaders like Marcus Garvey and Barack Obama. They can achieve things if they are really determined to do it.

“What I think impressed people was that we had an excluded student who has now completed his sixth form education and is going on to university this October. He joined us in Year 11 and went on to obtain five GCSEs before joining the sixth form college where he completed a Business Studies course.”

Vital EET supplementary school runs in the evenings and on Saturdays and caters for pupils aged five to 18. The organisation also run adult education courses.
