“Hard-hitting” measures will tackle Hackney’s filthy emission fumes thanks to a cash injection from Sadiq Khan.

The borough, along with Islington and Tower Hamlets, will benefit from the City Fringe Low Emissions Neighbourhood proposal, which includes tree planting, an emphasis on walking and cycling (with improved pavements and cycle routes) and parking spaces for the cleanest vehicles.

The London mayor has announced an £11million fund for some of the capital’s most polluted boroughs, with five “low emission neighbourhoods” set up across eight boroughs.

Hackney’s neighbourhoods boss Cllr Feryal Demirci said: “Air pollution knows no boundaries, so this is a fantastic opportunity to work together and make our part of London a greener, healthier and happier place to live, work and visit.”
