An exhibition exploring the history of the traditional “Saturday girl” role featured a Hackney waitress.

Chantelle Castro was picked from hundreds of entries to feature in the work, which looks at how the jobs have evolved over the years.

The 27-year-old quit her job as a travel agent earlier this year and now works a number of casual roles that she says suit her better.

Chantelle spends her Saturday’s waitressing at The Grocery in Kingsland Road, and also looks after cats and sells her macrame online.

For the exhibition, she was captured by top photographer Lewis Khan at the cafe and at her home in Sylvester Road. Chantelle said: “It’s given me flexibility while providing the financial freedom to be able to explore my creative endeavours during the week, something I had really struggled to do. It was really fun to get involved and show the traditional nine to five isn’t the only way of working!”

The exhibition was at Woolff Gallery in Fitzrovia.
