Almost 300 Hackney youngsters participated in one of London’s largest-ever bike rides for young people.
For the third year running Bike Around the Borough saw a huge contingent of pupils from 20 schools take to the roads for the nine-mile ride from Well Street Common, through Hackney Downs, Clissold Park and Hackney Road to London Fields.
Cllr Feryal Dermici, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “To get 300 schoolchildren learning to cycle safely on our roads and to show them how fun healthy exercise and sustainable travel can be is a fantastic achievement.”
Previously awarded the School Project of the Year, award by the London Cycling Campaign – the event last Thursday was organised by the council and Hackney Police’s safer transport team.
