The Tottenham Hotspur forward discusses the upcoming UEFA Nations League games and Harry Winks’ inclusion in the England squad

Harry Kane is expecting England to play two tough games over the next few days, but wants some type of revenge over Croatia during Friday night’s UEFA Nations League Group A4 match.

The Three Lions take on their World Cup semi-final nemesis in Rijeja with both sides looking to pick up their first points of the competition.

After losing 2-1 to Croatia in the last-four in Russia earlier this year, England will be eager to claim bragging rights tomorrow evening.

Gareth Southgate has a slightly different squad now compared to the one he had at the World Cup with Mason Mount, Jadon Sancho and James Maddison earning maiden call-ups to the senior national team for the games away to Croatia and Spain.

Spurs forward and England captain Kane is confident they will cope fine, he said: “I trained with Mason a bit before the World Cup.

“He came and trained with us a little bit. I think it’s great and that’s what we want in the side.

“We want fresh, hungry players and competition for places. It will be interesting to see how they get on, I’m sure they will do great.

“They’ve been playing week in, week out which is good and what they need, so yes, we have just got to go and enjoy it.

“It is two tough games but with Croatia, we know what happened in the summer so it would be nice to try and get our own back on them.

“Then obviously Spain we played recently, so two tough games, but we are looking forward to them.”

It was confirmed this morning Danny Rose has been forced to pull out of the England squad with a minor injury.

The Tottenham Hotspur left-back suffered a slight groin issue towards the end of the 1-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday.

At the time, Rose hoped it wouldn’t keep him out, but the defender has now returned to Hotspur Way.

Kane is still joined in the current England squad by club team-mates Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier and Harry Winks.

For Winks, it is a big confidence boost to be called up by Southgate again after some time out during the past year with ankle problems.

Now he is back fully fit and edging closer to his best form, Kane is confident the 22-year-old will impress for the Three Lions again.

He added: “Harry’s a great player. He loves to get on the ball and twists and turns. He keeps the ball and he’s passing the ball forward most of the time which is great.

“He had a tough spell where he was struggling with injury and getting his fitness back, so it’s great to see him back in there now.

“It’s a deserved call-up and hopefully he’ll just keep his head down, keep doing what he’s doing and he’ll be fine.”

England visit Croatia tomorrow for a behind closed doors Nations League match before travelling to Spain on Monday for another Group A4 encounter.
