Spurs have already played twice in December and have seven more fixtures before the year is out, but Kane loves this period of the season

Harry Kane has had a gruelling 12 months, but he is relishing the prospect of playing so many games for Spurs in December and January.

Talk of the England captain needing a rest has long been a topic of debate, but after scoring his 13th goal of the campaign on Wednesday, the 25-year-old insists this is one of his favourite times of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur are set to face Leicester City, Barcelona, Burnley, Arsenal, Everton, AFC Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers before the year is out and academy graduate Kane is raring to go.

“I feel in good shape and I feel at my best when I am in a rhythm and not thinking too much and it is onto the next game and we have plenty coming up,” he said.

“Maybe it is because you don’t think too much. If you miss a couple of chances there is a game a couple of days away so you forget about it quickly.

“For me I get into a rhythm where I know where the space will be and I know where the ball will drop and throughout my career so far this period is where I come into my best.

“It might be down to fitness as well where teams are a bit more tired and I can exploit the space a bit more and as a team I think we do that well.

“December and January is when we start picking up form and winning games and it is important we do that this season.”

Ahead of Saturday’s 7.45pm kick-off at the King Power Stadium, Spurs are third in the table with 33 points – two ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal and six behind Liverpool.

Leicester will be far from a pushover, but Tottenham will look to get on a roll again as they seek to get over the derby defeat to the Gunners.

Unai Emery’s team were simply the better side on Sunday and deserved their 4-2 win at the Emirates, but Pochettino saw his team respond on Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over Southampton.

Goals from Kane, Lucas Moura and Heung-min Son put the Lilywhites in control, but Charlie Austin’s stoppage time strike prevented Hugo Lloris getting a clean sheet after a string of wonderful saves.

“It was nice to get the goal early on and we did well,” Kane said. “We killed the game off and made it 3-0 and once we got there we took our foot off the gas a little bit.

“Hugo had to make a couple of good saves and at the end it was not nice to concede, but overall it was good to bounce back well from the weekend.

“It was a tough week – Chelsea, Inter Milan and Arsenal – and it doesn’t stop because we have to carry on playing the games and we have another tough one on Saturday.”

An attendance of just 33,012 turned up to watch Wednesday’s match with the Saints and it was a major talking point after, but Kane says Spurs cannot afford to use that as an excuse going forward at the national stadium this season.

He admitted: “It was one of them. It was a Wednesday night and it’s difficult. Everyone wants to be in the stadium, we all know that and we all want to be in the stadium.

“The fans are always great wherever we go and you can understand why there were not as many against Southampton, but it is what it is.

“As players we can’t use that as an excuse and we have to take care of ourselves and do the job on the pitch and that’s why it was a good win.

“It could have easily been a slow game and a testimonial type game, but we got the three goals and won the game well.”
