The forward discusses what would make the current campaign a ‘very good’ one for Spurs and how his recent injury may be a positive

Harry Kane believes Tottenham Hotspur deserve to be playing Champions League football again next season and will do everything he can to get the club back there and to win the FA Cup.

It could be an exciting and successful end to the campaign for Spurs with Mauricio Pochettino’s men fighting for a top-four finish and to end their quest for silverware.

Sunday’s 3-1 victory at Chelsea has given the Lilywhites a big advantage in the race for Champions League qualification.

Tottenham are eight points ahead of the Blues with only seven fixtures left and Kane said: “We don’t just want to be a team that gets into the Champions League for one or two years and then falls off.

“We deserve to be there. We showed this year in the Champions League we can compete with the best.

“Obviously it was disappointing to go out (against Juventus), but we had some great results, so we want to be there again next year and do the same.”

Champions League football in the new stadium is something everyone at the club wants, but parading a trophy there would also be special.

Spurs are well placed for a big finish to the season and will be confident ahead of the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United on April 21.

Tottenham lost narrowly at Old Trafford on October 28 before comfortably defeating the Red Devils 2-0 at Wembley on January 31.

Kane added: “I think Champions League football (for next season) is a must and we’re in a great position.

“I think we’ve also got to try and win the FA Cup. If we do that, we can say it’s been a very good campaign.

“Obviously City have run away with the league this year, and fair play to them, but for us, it’s about maintaining the Champions League every year and hopefully we can do that, and try to win a trophy.

“We’re in a good spot. We’ve got a tough game against Man United in the semi-final, but if we can get through that we will maybe play Chelsea or Southampton and go from there.”

The 24-year-old was hardly needed at Stamford Bridge on April Fools’ Day and that made the win at the Blues all the more impressive.

Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli stole the show, but it was a real team effort which saw Spurs end their 28-year hoodoo at Chelsea.

Kane did enter the pitch after his recent injury, but only with 16 minutes left and the Lilywhites 3-1.

After suffering ankle ligament damage at AFC Bournemouth on March 10, the striker has made a remarkable recovery and he is hoping the three weeks out will benefit him during the final month-and-a-half of the campaign.

He added: “I knew last week it was looking good and I would be able to step it up, and thankfully I was ready for the game.

“The injury was pretty much exactly the same time as last year, funnily enough. I was feeling strong last year and that’s what I’ll try and do this year.

“As a team, we’re in a great position for Champions League football, and we’ve just got to continue that. We’ve got big games coming up, so we’ve just got to look forward to that.”
